WhatsApp to soon replace green badge with blue checkmark for verified businesses and channels – The Times of India

What does WhatsApp blue checkmark mean for users?

Meta-owned WhatsApp is replacing the green verification badge with a blue checkmark for verified channels and businesses. According to a report by WaBetaInfo, the feature has started rolling out to WhatsApp Beta users on Android. This new feature comes with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.18 update, which is available on the Google Play Store.

Sharing a screenshot of the feature, the report suggests that the blue checkmark is aimed to enhance brand consistency across Meta platforms. It’s designed to unify user experience across different Meta apps – Facebook, Instagram, and now WhatsApp.

The new blue checkmark on WhatsApp for verified channels and businesses will indicate the authenticity of the account. It offers users reassurance that they are interacting with a verified channel or business. As stated before, it is aimed to improve user trust when engaging with official accounts and reduce the risk of impersonation.

One of the advantages of replacing the green verification badge with a blue checkmark on WhatsApp is it aligns the app’s visual identity with other Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram. This change is expected to assist users in easily recognizing verified accounts across different services, thereby enhancing brand recognition.

“The decision to replace the green verification badge with a blue checkmark on WhatsApp may also be seen as a response to Meta Verified, a feature recently announced by Mark Zuckerberg,” the report states.
